Excellent tips, Carlos! If we don't throw an Oscar Party, we may see you at UltraStar - they're my favorite theater chain.

Peg,

Some notes on your post. The kiss of death has traditionally been used to describe a movie that get's an NC-17 rating because many theaters chains will not screen anything higher than a R rated movie due to pressure from family and religious groups. Most studios have contracts with Directors that require them to re-edit a movie so that it get's an R. As for the foreign films if you manage to catch any of them in the theater, Landmark Theaters is a great that. Check out the foreign language symposium at the Academy the day before the Oscars. It's sold out this year but happens every year at the same time and place. Here is the URL http://www.oscars.org/events-exhibitions/events/2010/flfs.html
Finally, once you see as many Oscar hopefuls as you can. Come see the Academy Awards Ceremony in High Def at the Ultrastar Theater in Mission Valley on March 7. $20 gets you bottomless popcorn and soda.

Have fun at the movies.
